In a recent article named, “Katy Perry on ‘I Kissed A Girl’: ‘It was a bit Radical to Sing about Bisexuality’” it talks about pop artist Katy Perry’s song I kissed a girl released in 2008. She states that it was a bit radical for her to write lyrics about bisexuality. When this song fire aired, many people had many different emotions and opinions about this song. While the gay community thought that it was about time people start talking about real issues, there was other people who took this song offensively and believed that the subject of bisexuality should not even be brought up. In recent interviews, Katy Perry states that even though she does like to sometimes kiss other girls, this song was just meant to be a “fun little pop song.” Looking back at the reading we have done so far I have come to realization that the subject of bisexuality can be connected with this article and the reading of “Straight Girls Kissing.” The authors of this story, Rupp and Taylor, they describe how women in these days seem to mess around with bisexuality because of three main reasons. They say that girls in college environments make out with girls at parties and are not classified as lesbians or bisexuals but rather “bi-curious” and still considered heterosexual. In today’s society, it is not seen as being lesbian if a girl likes to make out with another girl because for most guys this act turns them one. In the article the authors have a line that says that even in this situation where women are exploring their sexuality; women are still being put after men because these acts please men. By Katy Perry stating in the interview without any embarrassment, this shows me how a girl kissing another girl is becoming more common in heterosexual girls that do not consider themselves as lesbians.
